This was an interesting read and reminded me of the Nicholas Sension piece when it described the way some Methodist congregations still hold gay or lesbian wedding ceremonies despite the church's official ban on this and how punishments are rarely used against these. It felt similar to the way sodomy laws at that time existed, but were not worth exacting against good, upstanding members of the community. It makes me wonder if single congregations are going against this Methodist ban with few repercussions, why even bother with it?
