What are some ways in which we can address the barriers that prevent LGBTQ+ individuals from accessing adequate mental health care?

  1. This is a really good question and I think a pivotal one in asking about inadequate mental health programs generally and particularly for persecuted minority groups. While this question is so central to conversations surrounding inaccessible health care services, there are additional concerns regarding mental health access. How can we expect people to afford mental health services when many cannot afford physical health services? When these questions of inaccessibility are compounded by other factors, particularly race and gender, we as a society need to look at how to make these services more accessible. Further, destigmatizing mental health needs a national push with robust education programs.
